Toulouse is known as the pink city, as most of its buildings have been built out of bricks of this colour, a characteristic that cloaks the streets with a romantic and evocative veil. Let’s find out what the tourist attractions not to be missed in Toulouse are.
Don’t miss
The Capitol
The landmark of Toulouse is the Capitol, located in “Place du Capitole”. This historic building, whose construction began in 1190, is now the seat of the Town Hall and dominates the square with its imposing facade.
The Basilica of Saint Sernin
Another symbolic landmark of the French city is the Basilica of Saint Sernin, one of the most beautiful and fascinating examples of a Romanesque church in Europe. The first stones were laid as far back as 1080, although the church was finally completed only three centuries later. The complex is overlooked by an imposing tower that gives a sense of majesty.
Boat trip
One of the must-do experiences in Toulouse is a cruise on the Canal du Midi, a magnificent waterway built to connect the Atlantic Ocean with the Mediterranean. Precisely for this reason it is also known as the Channel of the Two Seas. You can walk or cycle under the plane trees to enjoy the atmosphere and stay in close contact with nature.
Cité de l’espace
One of Toulouse’s most beautiful attractions is the Cité de l’espace (Space City), a family-friendly theme park. There are interactive and 3D games and many other attractions for both young and old.
Japanese Garden
Did you know there’s a little corner of the Far East in Toulouse? It is the beautiful Japanese Garden, a place of peace and serenity where you can refresh your mind and body. Among exotic plants and lanterns the water flows serenely, giving moments of pure relaxation and inner peace.
